Urban projects in the city of Valencia

What will the city of Valencia look like in 10 years’ time? Of course, nothing is set in stone, but these are the current plans for the city. We have selected the most significant changes that will really give certain neighbourhoods a boost and simply make the city even more enjoyable. We have also listed the neighbourhoods that will be affected by these changes.

1. Expansion of Parc Central and removal of the railway track

This is a major project in Valencia, comprising several phases, on which work is already well underway. One of the most significant aspects of this project is the complete redevelopment of the railway network. In total, around nine kilometres of track will be moved underground, freeing up a vast area in the heart of the city.

This will create space for several new stations connected to the metro and tram networks, and for no less than 425,000 m² of green space and amenities, including the extension of the current Parc Central.

The current AVE station, Joaquín Sorolla, which was originally built as a temporary solution, will eventually be phased out once the new Estación Central is completed. The space freed up will then form part of the further development of Parc Central and the surrounding neighbourhoods.

💡Of particular interest to these neighbourhoods:

  • Ruzafa
  • Malilla
  • Arrancapins
  • La Raiosa
  • Patraix

2. The new Turianova residential estate and the Infinity shopping centre

A completely new urban area is taking shape on the southern outskirts of Valencia: Turianova. This modern residential district, situated near La Fe Hospital, will be further developed over the coming years with new homes, amenities and infrastructure.

What makes this area particularly interesting is the arrival of the large-scale Infinity project. This will not be a traditional shopping centre, but a modern leisure and retail concept featuring over 200 shops, restaurants, entertainment venues and even a hotel. Construction is expected to start in 2026, with a planned opening around 2028.

Together, Turianova and Infinity are providing a major boost to this part of the city, helping it to develop into one of Valencia’s new hotspots.

3. Extension of Turia Park

The Turia Park is already nearly 10 kilometres long, but it could be even longer! Anyone who has ever tried to cycle or walk from the Turia Park to the sea will have noticed that the park suddenly comes to an end. Under the Parque de Desembocadura (River Mouth Park) project, the park will be extended all the way to the sea, meaning that from now on you’ll be able to cycle or walk all the way to the coast through the park. What’s more, this project will also see the construction of many new properties.

4. New football stadium

Valencia CF’s new football stadium, Nou Mestalla, has been a well-known project in the city for years. After a long period of inactivity, work has now resumed, with the aim of completing the stadium in the coming years. Partly with a view to the 2030 World Cup, the project has been given priority once again. The stadium is expected to have a capacity of around 70,000 spectators.

💡 Of particular interest to these neighbourhoods:

  • Campanar
  • Benicalap

5. Valencia City Centre: Town Hall Square, Calle Colón and Plaza San Agustín

Several projects are also planned for the centre of Valencia over the coming years. For example, the Plaza del Ayuntamiento is being redesigned to include more greenery, shade and space for pedestrians, whilst retaining its iconic role during events such as Fallas.

In addition, major streets such as Calle Colón and areas around Plaza San Agustín are being renovated. Calle Colón, for instance, will be fitted with noise-absorbing asphalt to reduce both noise and CO2 emissions, as well as wider pavements and new traffic lights specifically for cyclists. These developments will ensure that the centre of Valencia not only becomes more attractive but also increasingly appealing to live in.

💡 Of particular interest for these neighbourhoods:

  • Sant Francesc
  • Pla del Remei
